Historical Note

The Fox Theater opened in December 1937. Located at 240 North Illinois St., Indianapolis, Indiana, the building originally opened November 22, 1909 as the Colonial Theater. The Colonial later changed its name to the Empress Theater before being renamed Fox Theater. The theater initially presented Vaudeville entertainment, then motion picture, and later became a burlesque house. The theater closed in December 1975.
