This collection includes text and photographs from Ray Shearer and the Shearer family in Indianapolis, Indiana ranging from 1911 to 2019, regarding the different United States Navy ships that Shearer helped get commissioned with Indiana-based names, as well as the class photos from the Shearer family in the early 1900s.

Biographical

Ray Shearer was the chairman for both the U.S.S. Indiana and the U.S.S. Indianapolis Commissioning Committees. He worked to have multiple United States naval ships named after the state of Indiana or the city of Indianapolis. Shearer was a marine veteran who helped recording and honor United States military burials from World War I and World War II, which have been lost due to their small size.
