Biographical Note

Henretta (sometimes spelled Henrietta) Barth Gavin was born to John (1853–1919) and Louisa "Lou" Augusta (Barth) Gavin (1858–1929), on September 29, 1894 in Indiana. Her brother John was born in January 10, 1899. They had a middle brother named Claude John, born on September 15, 1896. Their father, born in Indiana, was an Irish-American baker, while their mother immigrated from Germany. The family lived in New Albany, Indiana when John was 11 months old. Sometime after the death of their father, the family, save for Claude, moved to Indianapolis. Henretta Gavin worked as a stenographer for the Indiana Investments and Securities Company, while John worked as a cabinetmaker in 1922. They lived in an apartment at 720 E. 13th Street in Indianapolis with their mother, Lou.

Henretta Gavin married a salesman named Will Tatham Stalnaker on May 20, 1927 in Broward County, Florida. Stalnaker had a son from a previous marriage, Will L. (circa 1915-), and the couple also had two daughters: Sara Lou (1928-) and Henretta (1930-). The family lived in Indianapolis for 3 years, then moved to Evansville for a time after the birth of their youngest daughter, before finally relocating to Miami, Florida. Will took a job as a manager for an Electrolux store by 1934. Henretta Gavin Stalnaker died on July 31, 1979 in Miami-Dade County, Florida and is buried in Southern Memorial Park in North Miami.

John Gavin, Jr. married Etta Hudnall (1891–1967) in the mid-1920s and they had a daughter, Patricia Grace (1929-) while living in Indianapolis. They moved to Miami, Florida by 1931 where Gavin worked as a janitor for Florida Power and Light Company. He eventually got a job as a steelworker. Etta died on April 24, 1967 and is buried in Southern Memorial Park in North Miami. Gavin died 16 years later on September 6, 1983 in Pinellas County, Florida. He was cremated and is interred in Garden of Resurrection Columbarium, Serenity Gardens Memorial Park in Largo, Florida.
