This collection contains records of the Indiana Mirror Manufacturing Company from Indianapolis, Indiana, including inventories (1935-1953), trial balance/accounts receivable reports (1941-1954), and profit/loss statements (1935-1954). Also included are the biannual "Census of Manufacturers" (1927-1947) and reports related to the shipment of alcohol (1920-1947). There are also payroll records (1948-1952) which include information about the company’s employees, including birth dates and job descriptions. More information about employees can be found in their employee-withholding-exemption certificates (1943-1952). There is extensive paperwork related to one employee, Ralph LaGrotta (also spelled LaGrotta or LaGrotte), including tax returns (1943-1946) and immigration information about him and wife Anna and son Joseph. The collection also includes sales figure charts (1932-1953), business reports, correspondence, and price guides for other companies in similar fields.

Historical Note
The Indiana Mirror Manufacturing Company began business in Indianapolis, Indiana in January 1904. The original president of the company was A. Lehman. The company was purchased by James Franklin Failey for his son, Robert B. Failey, in 1911. Robert Failey eventually became both president and treasurer. The company’s main purpose was to make mirrors for wholesale to other companies. The glass used in the mirrors was sometimes purchased from other businesses such as the Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company in Toledo, Ohio. The company was dissolved in 1954.
