Biographical / Historical

Founded in 1986 with the intention of providing historical, educational, and not-for-profit preservation of the historical materials concerning railway and interurban transportation of all kinds, to collect data on the history of transportation and issue publications relating to these subjects, to encourage rail track transportation, and to acquire items of general interest for museum purposes. They were a community group where anyone over the age of 16 who was interested in the history of trains and railways was invited to be a part of it. The group was active in gathering whatever materials they could surrounding the topic of trains and formed a rather extensive collection of historic materials both primary and secondary. John de Jung, who was the founder and president for the extent of the Club’s history as far as can be tracked, created the scrapbook found at the end of the collection kept a place for a couple different generations of Hoosiers to meet and enjoy the subject they loved. The group disbanded between 2015 and 2020.
