Scope and Contents
The collection, which dates from approximately 1900-1950, contains articles, manuscript drafts, and research notes of Logan Esarey. The collection consists of several unpublished chapters on politics and early Indiana state newspapers, Esarey's research and notes from the Indiana Journal and Senate Journal, as well as several essays on Jacksonian democracy in Indiana, the William Henry Harrison administration, and the Republican Party in Indiana. Also included are correspondence and articles concerning early Indiana newspapers from Donald F. Carmony, a professor at Indiana University South Bend Center, to R. Carlyle Buley, a collegue of Esarey at Indiana University, and a carbon copy of a typed document regarding culture in southern Indiana and read by Esarey at a meeting of the American Historical Association on December 12, 1933.

Biographical Note
Logan Esarey was born in Branchville, Indiana, in 1873. From 1897 to 1903, he served as the superintendent of the Perry County School system. He later accepted a position as principal of Vincennes High School, which he eventually left to become dean of Winona College. After receiving a Ph.D. in 1913, he joined the faculty at Indiana University as a professor of history. He became an authority on Indiana history publishing several books including the History of Indiana, Courts and Lawyers of Indiana, Letters and Papers of William Henry Harrison, Messages of Indiana Governors, and The Indiana Home. After twenty-eight years at Indiana University, he retired and moved to Lake Worth, Florida. In 1942, he died at the age of sixty-nine.
