Biographical / Historical
William Carter was born Dec. 31, 1856 in Defiance, Defiance, OH, to William and Elizabeth Ann Daggett Carter (who married in 1839). He had four brothers: William (who died in infancy), Dallas Montgomery, Louis Case, and Elbert Eugene. He also had six sisters; Maria Louise, Emma Elizabeth, Mary, Florence Adell, Arabelle, and Helen. Many of his siblings died in infancy. William married Emma Adeline Houghton on April 30, 1878. They had at least children; Abbie (1879), William (1881) and Elizabeth (1887). He later divorced Emmma and married Henriette Stanford of Indianapolis, IN and they had 3 children: (1904), Ruth (1906), and Charles Daggett Carter (1909). William died Feb. 10, 1936 in Cincinnati, OH and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate, KY.
