Historical Note

The Battle of Tippecanoe occurred on November 7, 1811 between major General William Henry Harrison's United States expeditionary force and Shawnee people let by Laulewasikau (Tenskwatawa), also known as The Prophet. It took place at Prophetstown on the Tippecanoe River, now known as Battle Ground. Harrison meant to destroy an intertribal alliance between Tecumseh and his brother, Laulewasikau. Harrison's victory over the Shawnee prevented an alliance of tribes.
