Administrative History
The Indiana League of High School Girls' Athletic Associations, also known as the Indiana League of Girls High School Athletic Association and Girl's Athletic Association was founded in 1931, due to the work of a committee of physical education teachers who wanted tp improve the physical education and extracurricular program for high school girls. Individual schools became members of the League. It operated independently of the Indiana High School Athletic Association; however, if the school was a member of the IHSAA, its rules governed interschool activities of girls. The League held talks with the HSAA in 1967, discussing rules and co-curricular sports activities for boys and girls but it was still a separate organization in 1985.
Patricia Roy was the assistant commissioner in the IHSAA for 27 years and worked with the girls' athletic programs during the 1972-1973 school year.
