Scope and Contents
The collection includes one scrapbook and one envelope of newspaper clippings and a booklet which document Marion County General Hospital's expansion from 1958 through 1973. The clippings, which are dated, document renovation, relocation, and new construction at the hospital. New construction specifically includes a new wing, a new psychiatric facility, expansion of the Krannert Institute of Cardiology, and initiation of the Regenstrief Health Center. Other subjects include the Citizens Committee for Marion County General Hospital (which assisted in the issuance of bonds for construction), significant staff and changes in staff, and preservation of the hospital's murals (some of the work of T. C. Steele, Otto Stark, William Forsyth, and other well-known Indiana artists).

Historical Note
In 1961, Indianapolis, Sunnyside Sanitarium, and the Marion County General Hospital merged. The following year the hospital undertook a $16 million expansion, adding numerous clinics as part of its development program. In an attempt to consolidate its efforts and offer better services to the public, the hospital opened the new Regenstrief Clinic in 1975. Psychiatric care was offered, both on the wards and at the Midtown Mental Health Center. In an attempt to lose the reputation of being a charity hospital and to attract paying patients, the hospital changed its name to Wishard Memorial Hospital in 1975.
