Biographical Note
Florence J. Martin was born November 15, 1876 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She trained to be a nurse at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. Due to her experience and reputation as a nurse in Indianapolis, she was appointed chief nurse of Lilly Base Hospital No. 32 in Contrexéville, France during the latter part of World War I. Her duties there ended in 1919. Upon returning to Indianapolis she took a job at Indianapolis Industrial Clinic where she worked until retirement at the age of 84. Martin died in 1963 at the age of 86.
