Historical Note
The Woman's Franchise League of Indiana was founded in 1911 and was organized to educate the women of Indiana in civic consciousness and to promote women's suffrage. The organization consisted of a Central League at Indianapolis and Branch Leagues throughout the state. The Woman's Franchise League of Richmond (Indiana) was organized at a meeting held on March 29, 1912. The mission of the Richmond group was to forward the welfare of the community and to promote the interests of women. The Richmond League was disbanded following the meeting held on April 17, 1920 when a vote was taken to go on record as favoring the organization of a League of Women Voters group. A few weeks later, on May 8th, the Wayne County League of Women Voters was organized at a meeting held at the Westcott hotel in Richmond.
