Biographical Note
Russell Howard "Bob" Harrell was born to John Solomon and Lucinda (Voris) Harrell on July 30, 1908 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He had 8 siblings, including: Joseph Emerson, Edgar Graham, George Edwin, John Wesley, Fed Vincent, Dorothy Josephine, James R. and Clara J. Harrell graduated from Hanover College and Purdue University. He married Hazel Louise Beem and they had a son, Jack, on Februaary 4, 1939 in Leavenworth, Indiana. The family moved to Seymour, Indiana in 1945.
Harrell was an employee of the Indiana State Highway Department for 45 years. He oversaw construction of various sections of Highway 50 and State Road 62. He worked in the central office for 17 years and was the director of the department during Gov. Edgar D. Whitcomb's administration and for one year under Gov. Otis Bowen. Following his retirement, Harrell worked for SIECO, Inc., Consulting Engineers. He was a registered professional engineer. Harrell died July 16, 2009 and is buried in Riverview Cemetery, Seymour.
