Biographical Note

Peter Anderson was born in Maryland around 1804 to James C. and Celia "Selah" Anderson. Sometime before 1830, he moved to Logansport, Indiana, where he was a farmer and also owned a general store with Job B. Eldridge, which enterprise was dissolved in 1835. Information provided by the donor suggests that Anderson may have had several other partners at various times, including Mr. Atwell, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Horney. He also served as secretary for the Logansport and Rochester Michigan Road Company in 1846.

Anderson married Mary Ann Dunham on July 12, 1836 in Cass County, Indiana with whom he had three children. After Mary Ann's death, he married Margaret Emma Wright on September 4, 1848, also in Cass County. They had at least three children together. Anderson died on January 27, 1868.
