Administrative History
The town of Roachdale, Indiana was founded in 1880 with fewer than a hundred inhabitants. Originally called Langsdale, it was renamed Roachdale after Judge Addison Locke Roach, a railroad executive. The town grew due to its close proximity to the intersection of the Indianapolis, Decator and Springfield railroad and the Louisville, New Albany and Chicago railroad just outside of town. The two eventually supported several different kinds of businesses and over sixty commercial operations. It is located in Putnam County in Franklin Township.
Robert Armstrong was born in Indiana around 1871. In the 1940s, he lived in Roachdale, Putnam County, where he owned his own photography studio.
