"William Watson Woollen, son of Milton and Sarah Black Woollen, was born in Indianapolis on May 28, 1838. He grew up on his father's farm, attended the district schools, and graduated from the law department of Northwestern Christian, now Butler University in 1860. On April 1, 1861, he was admitted to the Indianapolis bar and at the time of his death was the senior member both in age and continuous practice.
