Scope and Contents
This collection includes one bound scrapbook of newspaper clippings, mainly cartoons, from the Kokomo Daily Tribune in Kokomo, Indiana. Photographic prints of ships, including the Raleigh, Baltimore, Concord, Petrel, Iowa, New York, Amphitrite, and Indiana are included as well as various Spanish American War-related military scenes and leaders. A section of the clippings focuses on heroes and stories told after the completion of the war. Adhered to the last few pages are envelopes addressed to Miss Georgia Hilligoss in Shelbyville, Indiana from Corporal Major R. Wilson, Company C, 161st Regiment, Indiana Volunteers.

Historical Note
On April 19, 1898, Congress adopted a Joint Resolution for war with Spain, and on April 23, President William McKinley issued a proclamation calling for 125,000 volunteers to serve in the army for two years in what became known as the Spanish-American War.
Biographical Note
Major R. Wilson was born in 1878. Corporal Major R. Wilson enlisted on June 29, 1898 and mustered out on April 30, 1899. He served in Company C, 161st Regiment, Indiana Volunteers during the Spanish American War. He died on September 23, 1923 and is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana.
