Organizational History

The establishment of the Indiana Veterans' Home (formerly named the Indiana State Soldiers' and Sailors' Home) in Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, was made possible through activities begun by the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) and the Department of Encampment in Indianapolis in the year 1886. In 1895, the Indiana General Assembly passed a bill for the establishment and maintenance of the home.
