Biographical Note

Jane Merrill Ketcham was the daughter of the first treasurer of Indiana, Samuel Merrill, and the wife of early Indiana settler, John Ketcham. She was born on February 2, 1819 in Vevay, Indiana and came to Indianapolis with her parents when the capital of the state was moved from Corydon, Indiana. During the Civil War, Ketcham spent a year at a Union hospital in Gallatin, Tennessee. She died in 1911.
