Historical Note

Saint Mary's College is a private, Catholic, women's liberal arts college in Notre Dame, Indiana. It was founded as an academy for young women in 1844 by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Saint Mary's College grew out of the academy. ----- Saint Augustine's Academy was the first Catholic school in Fort Wayne in 1846. In 1938, it merged with the all-boys school, Central Catholic High School, and continued on in that name. Central Catholic High School closed in 1972. ----- Saint Joseph's College was a private Catoholic college in Rensselaer, Indiana. It operated from 1889 until 2017.
