Scope and Contents

This collection contains the following account books:

Volume 1: an account book used by Israel Ferris of Decatur, New York and then Nathaniel S. Prentiss of Jefferson County, Indiana (1808-1863).

Volume 2: an account book use to record drinks served in Frankfort, Ohio (1836-1839).

Volume 3: an account book used by D. Blacker (Dennis Blacker?) of Frankfort, Ohio (1839-1862).

Volume 4: an account book used in Fleming County, Kentucky (1840-1841) and then used as a scrapbook (1850-1858, undated) – most of the account entries are obscured by newspaper clippings.

Biographical note

Harry Dale was born on August 21, 1908 to Jacob and Rachel Dalinsky. His family operated the Bookazine, a store that sold new and used books and was located at 141 E. Washington Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. The family put the store up for sale at the end of 1943. Harry later moved to California and passed away there in May 1965.
