Scope and Contents

This collection includes a scrapbook created by Nikki Schofield during the time she volunteered in Republican politics. The bumper sticker on the front cover states: "This Woman Is For Reagan-Bush '84." The materials begin in 1982 and end in 1988. Some of the candidates included in the scrapbook are: John R. Price, Bill Hudnut, George Bush, Dan Quayle, Dan Burton, Steve Carlock, Ronald Wilson Raegan, Joseph P. Watkins, Robert Orr, Gerald Zore, Steve Goldsmith, John Mutz, and Brian C. Bosma. On February 1, 1984, John W. Sweezy, Chairman of the Marion County Republican Central Committee, appointed Ms. Schofield as Precinct Committeeman in the 23rd Precinct of the 27th Ward. On September 13, 1986, Nikki registered her youngest son Gaven Schofield, and he voted by absentee ballot from Indiana University, Bloomington. In a back pocket are loose materials including bumper stickers and an invitation to the inauguration of George Herbert Walker Bush and James Danforth Quayle on January 20, 1989.

Biographical Note

Nikki Schofield, law librarian at Bingham Summers Welsh and Spilman, was a volunteer for the Marion County Republican Central Committee. Having become acquainted with John R. Price, Esq., at the weekly Bible study he taught in downtown Indianapolis, Schofield handed out literature for him at the May 1982 primary when he ran for Congress. She met Steve Carlock at the same Bible study; he was elected to the school board. She served as sheriff and then as judge at various polling places in primaries and general elections. In 1984, Schofield was appointed as precinct committeeman in the 23rd Precinct of the 27th Ward by John W. Sweezy.
