General store account book

 Collection — Volume: V019
Identifier: V019

Scope and Contents

This collection includes an account book for a general store containing entries ranging from December 1838 to March 1840. It is unclear the exact location of the store, but most of the names recorded in the volume are of individuals who lived in Harrison Township, Union County, Indiana. Some surnames found in the account book include Clingenpeel, Eikenberry, Kingery, Lybrook, and Pullen. The book was later used as a scrapbook for recipes and home remedies clipped from newspapers circa 1860s to 1880s. An envelope addressed to John Hart of Beechy Mire, Ind. and a clipping with Maria Hart’s name written on it suggests that the scrapbook was kept by Mrs. Hart.
