Scope and Contents
This collection includes 3 account books kept by Daniel Curtis for his farm and tile businesses containing entries ranging from 1879 to 1888. Volume 3 also has entries made by Aetna Curtis ranging from 1908 to 1914 and a three page Purdue University Agricultural Extension Department publication about farming in Montgomery County along with a "Summary of the Year's Business" form filled out for Aetna's farm from 1916.

Biographical / Historical
Daniel W. Curtis was born May 31, 1853 in Coal Creek Township, Montgomery County, Indiana to Levi and Elizabeth Curtis. He married Julia Stout on March 14, 1878 and they had two children: Aetna (1884-1949) and another son who died in infancy. He was a farmer and a well-known businessman. In 1881 he purchased an interest with Maurice J. Lee in a tile mill business located in Wingate. He purchased Mr. Lee's interest in the business in 1886 and continued as its sole proprietor until his death at the age of 49 on November 17, 1902.
