This collection contains two account books. The first two are for the Pleasant Run Farm in Johnson County, Indiana, which was run by Bartholomew Applegate. Both books are listed chronologically and list his expenses and purchases.

Biographical Note
Bartholomew Applegate was born in Toms River, New Jersey on January 12, 1793. He moved to Indiana sometime before 1821, and worked as a farmer. He married Elizabeth Drake in Fayette County, Indiana on August 10, 1821. They had at least seven children. Applegate died at Edinburgh, Indiana of cholera on June 3, 1854.
John Beard married Lucy Applegate on August 16, 1876 in Johnson County, Indiana. He worked as a grocer in Franklin, Indiana. He had been born in Indiana around 1842. He appears to have died in Franklin on May 17, 1888.
