Biographical Note

Rose Marie Brickler was born on January 27, 1890, to Simon F. (1854-1929) and Maria (Hartmaring) Brickler (1853-1893) in Lafayette, Indiana. She worked as a presser in a shirt factory in 1910. Brickler married Glen Richard Cruzan (1888-1948) on May 5, 1910, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and they had two children, Eugene Joseph (1911-1993) and Rosemary Louise (1915-1996). The couple filed for divorce in December 1924, then remarried on March 12, 1926, in Hancock County, Indiana. The couple divorced a second and final time between 1930 and 1940.

Rose Marie Cruzan organized three parliamentary law clubs, the first on July 14, 1937, and wrote a column, "Practical Parliamentary Procedure" for the Indianapolis Star, beginning in 1947, for 15 years and a registered professional parliamentarian, who served in that role at conventions in Indianapolis and elsewhere. She also had a syndicated column, "Point of Order," and taught courses at universities and high schools. Cruzan was a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians. Rose Marie Cruzan died of a heart attack on November 3, 1977, in Indianapolis and was buried in Calvary Cemetery.

Administrative History

The Rose Marie Cruzan Parliamentary Law Club No. 2 was organized in 1946 by Rose Marie Cruzan, the second club of its kind in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the purpose of "to study and practice parliamentary law, to work toward introducing the study of parliamentary law as a course of study in schools, and to aid members in becoming registered parliamentarians." The first president was Mrs. Lawrence T. Stafford and the members were affiliated with the Indiana State Association, part of the National Association of Parliamentarians. In 1980, the club had 20 members and met monthly. The club's creed was "Justice to all, courtesy to all, one thing at a time, the rule of the majority, the rights of the minority, and partiality to none."
