Historical Note
Logansport-Cass County Public Library opened in a building at its present site in Logansport, Indiana on November 1, 1894 with 1,450 volumes. In 1904, a new Carnegie library building was completed and the library's collection had grown to 14,500 volumes. In 1918, the library expanded to countywide service in Cass County, Indiana. The library obtained a "book wagon" in 1920 to serve the county's residents, who were unable to easily travel to the building in Logansport, which burned in a garage fire in January 1924. The library continued service by renting a vehicle and replaced the bookmobile by the following year. In April 1926, 4,599 books were checked out from the bookmobile of the library's 23,429 that month. On March 17, 1941, a fire destroyed the library building and over 25,000 volumes. The new main library building opened in September 1942.
