This collection includes a small scrapbook with 5 black-and-white photographs of the Wabash River at its source near the Indiana-Ohio border with typed descriptions, from Milton T. Jay in Portland, Indiana to Kenneth Kunkle "who has lived all his life on the banks of this beautiful river" in June, 1933. Three photographs feature residents of Portland--Alpheus A. Adair, Chester Brock, and Brock's 2 sons.

Biographical Note

Milton T. Jay was born on October 25, 1867 to James C. and Ann (Coukling or Compton) Jay. He had several siblings: Ellen S., Rachel J., Lucy A. K., and Rebecca L. Jay became an optomitrist and ear doctor. He married Mary Eva Harris (1867-1928) on September 5, 1888 and they had a son, James C. (1899-1970). The family lived in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. In 1940, Dr. Jay was a lodger who lived in Alpheus A. Adair. Jay died on May 25, 1945 and was buried in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
