Biographical Note

Benjamin Franklin Schenck was born to Ulysses Phillip (1811-1884) and Justine (Thiebaud) Schenck (1809-1889) on November 3, 1834 in Louisville, Kentucky. He had at least 10 siblings. LIke his father, Schenck was a merchant and businessman, working with his father and brother Andrew Jackson Schenck for the family business, U. P. Schenck and Sons. He also owned an ink factory with John Henry near Vevay, Indiana, as well as local Vevay newspaper, Weekly News. Schenck married Celestine McCulloch (1840-1885) on September 11, 1861 and had 3 daughters: Justine, Lillie Corinne (1871-1836), and Eugenia May (1862-1936). In 1872, he purchasesd about 64 acres of land and began construction for a manshion in Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana. Schenck died in 1877 and was buried in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.
