Scope and Contents
This collection documents the activities of the Indiana Civil Air Patrol and Robert and Martha Houge. The personal and military papers date from 1942 to 1955. Civil Air Patrol papers in the collection, dated 1943-1953, are communications between the office of the Indiana Wing and individual squadrons throughout Indiana. These papers include correspondence and memoranda relating to announced inspections, orders, reports of inspection, instruction concerning the training of personnel, and determination of the disposition of government property.
The papers of Robert and Martha Hogue (1942-1955) consist of enlistment papers, appointments, assignments, and other personnel matters. Recruitment materials (1943-1944) outline testing procedures, personnel needs, and programs.
Other papers relating specifically to Squadron 522-6 are directives, attendance and personnel reports, orders for movement, and maneuver reports. Also in the collection is a cardboard cut-out of the Liberty Loan Bell and a Civil Air Patrol flag.
The photographs in the collection, while largely unidentified, include 71 photographs and 142 negatives of aircrafts, assembled officers, and air reconnaissance.

Historical Note
The Indiana Civil Air Patrol was fully organized on February 1942. The Indiana Wing, which oversaw all Indiana squadron, maintained offices in Indianapolis. The Civil Air Patrol was the division of the Office of Civil Defense which carried out an aerial defense program. A major responsibility was air reconnaissance, particularly the detection and abatement of flights by unauthorized aircraft.
