Historical Note
The Portland Observer was established October 24, 1867, by J. H. Wickwire. The next year the office was sold to Joseph W. Bailey, the present proprietor. It is located at Portland, and is independent in politics.
Portland Observer began publishing on Aug. 16, 1870 by Joseph W. Bailey. From 1876-1886 it published as Portland Weekly Observer before going back to the earlier title. In July 1939 it merged with Portland Review to form Portland Review and Observer."
Reva Russell Crane Tomy, the compiler of the cookbook, was born to Wallace D. and Ida Russell [Rossell] Crane on Oct. 19, 1879 in Michigan. She married Cornelius D. Tomy on Feb. 17, 1904 in Portland, Michigan, and they had two children, Wallace D. and Dorothy R. She was a widow when she died, on Feb. 23, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
