Biographical Note

Robert Dale Owen was born on November 7, 1801 in Glasgow, Scotland. Owen emigrated to the United States after his father established a utopian experiment in New Harmony, Indiana. He was a prominent social reformer and heavily involved in the Democratic Party. Robert served within the Indiana House of Representatives from 1835-1853 and the United States House of Representatives from 1843-1847. Owen died on June 24, 1877.
