Biographical Note
Leroy Jenkins was born November 29, 1824. On March 3, 1853, he married Charlotte Baylor in New Albany, Indiana. Jenkins enlisted in June, 1846, and fought in the U.S.-Mexican War. He was a private in Company K, commandd by Captain Peck, in the 2nd Indiana Regiment for one year. Jenkins lived in New Albany in 1860, but by 1870, he lived in Franklin, Harrison County, Indiana. Leroy and Charlotte had several children: John W., James M., George F., Mary M., Charles, Harriette, Pleasant, and Thomas J. Jenkins died February 29, 1896 at the age of 71. Charlotte Jenkins died 12 years later on May 10, 1908. They were buried in the Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown, Floyd County, Indiana.
