Organizational History
Edward F. New, William Sherman, And Charles W. Roller founded the Indianapolis Aero Club in 1933. Originally known as the Hoosier Flying Club, the Indianapolis Aero Club had thirty-five members whose aviation interests included the Indiana Air Tours, dead stick landings, and scavenger hunts. In 1983, the club membership dropped considerably and the club almost disbanded. Bob Bruce took over the club as president and did much of the administrative work. In his first-year membership rose from forty-five members to over 200. The club is active, and its members are still aviation enthusiast, but are not necessarily piolets themselves. The Indianapolis Aero Club has transitioned into a dinner club that monthly has a speaker give an aviation talk.
