Biographical Note

Chelsea Lawlis received a BA from Franklin College in 1940, and an MA and PhD in 1946 and 1956, respectively, from Indiana University’s department of history. He served as a professor in the Social Sciences Division at Vincennes University from 1957 until the spring of 1984, and was chair of the division for twenty-one years during that time. While at Vincennes University he served for three years as director of the Byron R. Lewis Historical Library located on the university’s campus. He is the author of a book on the history of Vincennes University published in 1982, as well as several articles on the Whitewater Valley published in the Indiana Magazine of History in 1947 and 1948.
