Scope and Contents

This collection contains papers that relate to Albert Allen's service in the 55th and 133rd regiments of the Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the U.S. Civil War ranging from 1864 to 1913, including a discharge certificate (1864), a handwritten testimony of Allen's discharge, and three pension documents from 1912 to 1913. There are also two unidentified portrait photographs.

Biographical Note

Albert Allen was born on November 8, 1842 in Putnam County, Indiana. He served in both Company D of the 55th Indiana Regiment and Company F, 133rd Indiana Regiment. Allen was discharged on September 5, 1864. He was a druggist and married Alice Bennett on September 23, 1868. About a year after moving to California, Mr. Allen died from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on October 2, 1914. He was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, Indiana.
