The collection consists of information relating to the 32nd Indiana Regiment compiled by Michael A. Peake for his book entitled, Indiana's German Sons: From Rowlett's Station to the Lone Star. Material includes information of the Battle at Rowlett's Station as well as information relating to the 32nd Indiana monument at Cave Hill National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.

Historical Note
The 32nd Indiana Regiment was organized in Indianapolis in August 1861. The Colonel, August Willich, was an officer of the German Revolution in 1848 and the regiment is also referred to as the "First German".
The battle of Rowlett's Station in Kentucky took place on December 17th when four companies of the 32nd Regiment were attacked while repairing a railroad bridge. The 32nd Regiment succeeded in driving back the enemy, leaving them with 33 killed and 50 wounded. The 32nd Regiment lost 10 men with 22 wounded and 8 missing. For their success, the regiment was highly complimented by General Buell and Governor Morton and "Rowlett's Station" was placed on their regimental colors.
