This collection includes a copy of a manuscript of a diary covering Kniptash's years of service from enlistment to discharge (April 1917 to May 1919). It was published in 2009 by Oklahoma University Press as "On the Western Front with the Rainbow Division: a World War I Diary".

Biographical Note

Vernon Kniptash (1887-1987) was an Indianapolis architectural drafsman and a private in the Headquarters Company of the 150th Field Artillery Batallion of the 42nd (Rainbow) Division of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.
