This collection includes a publication titled The Johnson Family Memorandum, edited by Randolph Howe in 2000, containing transcripts and photocopies of the original documents created by Zenas C. and Juliaette L. Johnson in Oswego, Indiana during 1847-1852, concerning their daily life on their farm, weather, their family, and local events. It includes a map and appendix with an index of names and places.

Biographical Note
Zenas Crossman Johnson was born on July 1, 1801, in Peacham, Vermont, to Ziba Johnson and Sally (Lincoln) Johnson. He grew up in Vermont and trained there as a doctor before moving to Kosciusko, Indiana in 1837, despite owning over a hundred acres of land in Ottawa, Ohio. Johnson had married Juliaette Lamson on May 16, 1830, in Ohio, and the couple had two children: Oliver Townsend and Henry Haines. Johnson also served as a farmer upon arrival in Indiana in order to support his family. He died on May 10, 1848, from a weeklong illness and is buried in Oswego Cemetery.
Juliaette Lamson was born in Vermont in 1804 and moved with Zenas Johnson to Ohio in the 1830s. The couple were married on May 16, 1830, in Ohio, and the couple had two children: Oliver Townsend and Henry Haines. She moved with Johnson again in 1837 to Kosciusko, Indiana where she worked on the family farm. It is unknown when she passed away.
