Historical Note

Propaganda during World War I was a prevalent tactic by all belligerents to sway the hearts and minds of those involved in the war effort. This could be either the troops on the battlefield or the civilians at the home front, and the propaganda could be created by the state, journalists, the military, or even civilians themselves. Nearing the end of the war, some German civilians believed it would be better to surrender, as the soldiers would be needed to help rebuilding efforts. After the war, many members of the German military believed civilians did not do enough to help them win the war and gave up too quickly.
