Historical Note

Residents from Randolph County, Indiana fought for both sides during the U.S. Civil War. Those soldiers in the Union Army were associated with several residents, including: 7th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 9th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 11th Indiana Infantry Regiment (11th Indiana Zouaves), 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 42nd Indiana Infantry Regiment, 47th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 54th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 57th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 59th Indianan Infantry Regiment, 69th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 84th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 78th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 84th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 84th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 89th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 101st Indiana Volunteer Infantry regiment, 124th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 134th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 140th Indiana Infantry Regiment, 15th Indiana Light Artillery Independent Battery, 5th Indiana Calvary, 7th Indiana Calvary, 154th Calvary Brigade, 1st Ohio Infantry Regiment, 54th Ohio Infantry regiment, 58th Ohio Infantry Regiment, 71st Ohio Infantry Regiment, 93rd Ohio Infantry Regiment, 114th Ohio Infantry Regiment, 152nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 154th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment, 175th Ohio Infantry Regiment, 184th Ohio Infantry regiment, 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery Independent Battery, Ohio Corps Drum Majors, 26th New Jersey Infantry Regiment, 41st Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and 79th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Those soldiers who joined the Confederate Army fought in the 1st Kentucky Calvary and 13th Missouri Calvary Regiment.
