Administrative History

The Knights of Pythias is a fraternal organization established to promote friendship, charity, and benevolence. In the 1880s, Eureka Lodge No. 20 was the local lodge in Greenfield, Indiana. The lodge met on Monday nights.

The organization's lessons and rituals are based on the story of Damon and Pythias, whose friendship in ancient Syracuse was so strong they were willing to die for each other. The Knights of Pythias had many benevolent activities: homes for aged and infirm members and their families, camps for underprivileged children, academic scholarship programs, and foundations for the needy and those suffering from disease.
