Biographical / Historical
Joel W. McGrew served during the Civil War as Captain of Company I, 27th Indiana Volunteers, having been commissioned on August 3, 1861. He was discharged on November 21, 1861. McGrew lived in Putnam County after the Civil War and was elected a Justice of the Peace in 1872. As of 1892, he had moved to Pawnee, Nebraska.
