The collection includes two letters sent from Ferguson to his wife from Arkansas in 1863. The letters describe activities in the regiment and the possibility of re-enlisting for three more years, as well as the experiences of living in Arkansas.

Biographical Note

Reverend John Ferguson of Spurgeon, Indiana served as a chaplain to the 1st Indiana Cavalry during the Civil War. He was married to Matilda Ferguson.
