Scope and Contents
The collection consists of a transcribed account of daily acitivities of Company G, 3rd Cavalry (45th Regiment) from August 1861 to October 1864 by Brown, identified by Captain George F. herriott as company clerk. This copy was given to Captain Herriott. A typewritten account of the events of September 22 and 23, 1863 by Captain Herriott is included. Company G fought in Kentucky, Tennessee, with Rosecrans and Sherman and in the Atlanta campaign of 1864.

Biographical / Historical
Henry V. Brown was born circa 1828 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He came to Johnson County, Indiana and became a farmer. He mustered in to Company G of the 3rd Indiana Cavalry on September 20, 1861 in Indianapolis. He mustered out as 1st Sergeant on September 27, 1864 in Camp Crooks, Georgia. He returned to Indianapolis on october 4, 1864. Later in his life, he moved ton Hunnewel, Kansas.
