Historical Note

These ribbons are likely from the first U.S.S. Indiana, which was one of the newest American battleships in the late 19th century, authorized in 1890. It saw action both in the Spanish-American War and World War I. Naval cap ribbons were worn during the Spanish-American War on sailors' hats.
