Scope and Contents
This collection includes two pen sketches created by Arthur V. Gilliom in late 1945 while working as a freelance cartoonist. The sketches show people waiting in a long line to eat at a roadside table and a man trying to fish but having his catch measured by a police officer in the water.

Biographical Note
Arthur V. Gilliom was born on June 20, 1918, in Danville, Illinois to former Indiana Attorney General Arthur L. and Nancy (Kulp) Gilliom. He graduated high school in Indianapolis, Indiana from Shortridge High School and went on to attend the Chicago Art Institute for a couple of years before getting his bachelor's degree in journalism from Butler University. After graduating, Gilliom worked as a cartoonist and artist during the end of the Second World War. Switching careers, Gilliom went back to school to attend the Indiana University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1952. He joined the U.S. Army, serving as a first lieutenant in the Army Dental Corps from 1952 to 1954. Following his discharge, he started his own private dental practice in Anderson, Indiana. Gilliom was a member of the American Legion in Indianapolis, the American Dental Association, and the Indiana Dental Association. Gilliom died on January 1, 1999.
