Biographical Note
Margaret Jean Orcutt was born on February 25, 1926 in South Bend, Indiana to
Robert Dewey (1898-1972) and Margaret (Rittinger) Orcutt (1899-1965). She had an older brother, John. Orcutt graduated from Central High School in South Bend in 1943 and went on to attend Indiana University. She worked as a library science teacher for the local public schools in South Bend in 1950. Jean Orcutt married Roy George Brandt (1921-2005) on October 14, 1950 and they had five children: Thomas Sheldon, Ellen A., Louisa B., Rebecca M., and Roberta A. The family was living in Winamac, Indiana by 1992. Brandt died on November 15, 2021 in Mooresville, Indiana and was buried in Riverview Cemetery in South Bend.
