Historical Note

The Polar Ice and Fuel Company was an ice and gas production and delivery company in Indianapolis, Indiana from 1892 to the early 1940s. The company was one of the first in the city to move away from ice-ponds and natural ice. The company stayed in some sort of operation until 2000 when the Home City Ice Company acquired Polar Ice and Fuel. By that time, the company had expanded to cover Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio.
