Biographical Note

Solomon Mattias Glick was born to Solomon Glick and Mary Spangler on September 23, 1830, in Pickaway, Ohio. As part of a large Lutheran farming family, Glick had 17 brothers and sisters, 11 of which survived into adulthood. He married Mary Margaret Blessing on October 5, 1851, and together they had nine children. Upon the start of the Civil War Glick mustered into the Union Army and into the 4th Indiana Volunteer Calvary, 77th Regiment, L company. He survived through the war, writing home to his extended family throughout and promising to become an educator after the war. Glick initially went back to working on his father’s farm until he completed his own education and became a teacher in the local community himself. Glick later remarried Eveline Pennock on January 30, 1900, in Jackson, Indiana. He died on November 4, 1906, in Seymour, Indiana and was buried in Riverview Cemetery in the same city.
